How do I keep my child from escaping his car seat?
If your toddler works out how to undo their car seat buckle, or slip out of their harness, it can be frustrating and dangerous. Toddlers often go through a phase of slipping out of the child seat harness or releasing the buckle, while in the car. This is extremely concerning for parents and also very frustrating. Once your child has learnt how to do this, it is often very difficult to stop them. Make sure that your child is in the correct car seat for his/her age and also that they are strapped in correctly, making sure that the harness is quite tight, and you should only be able to fit one or two fingers between your child’s chest and harness. Let your child take a toy, game or book into the car with them to keep them occupied. Always insist that your child is secure in their child’s car seat, with the harness fastened. Do not give in by letting the child travel without being safe and secure.Â
